Your front yard
This is the beach directly in front of Mākaha Beach Cabanas. Step off the property and your feet are in the sand. A long, uncrowded stretch of golden sand with calm summer waters and dramatic winter surf. The sunsets here are unreal.
Oceanfront dining, sunset views
The best restaurant on the West Side, hands down. Sit on the open-air deck right over the water and watch the sunset while you eat. The menu is a mix of local favorites and elevated coastal cuisine. Reservations recommended for sunset seating, especially on weekends.
Hike to the edge of the island
A flat, scenic coastal trail that leads to the westernmost point of Oahu. The trail passes through a protected natural area reserve where you can spot Laysan albatross (November through July), Hawaiian monk seals, and in winter, humpback whales breaching offshore. The rock arch and blowhole at the point are stunning.

The West Side has a significant Native Hawaiian population. When visiting beaches and local spots, keep noise levels down, clean up after yourself, and be mindful that these are residential communities. Support local businesses whenever possible.
Beaches are quietest on weekday mornings. Farmers market is Saturday 8am-noon. Sunset is the main event every single day. Plan your activities around the light and you'll have the best experience.
Summer (May-Sep) means calm, clear water perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Winter (Oct-Apr) brings big surf, whale watching, and more dramatic skies. Both seasons are incredible, just different.
Yes, the West Side is 45-60 minutes from Waikiki. That's the whole point. The distance is what keeps it uncrowded and authentic. Once you're here, most of the best spots are within 10 minutes of the property.
